Bhoomika Meiling’s main areas of research are translation and culture studies. After graduating in English from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi University, she went on to obtain her Master’s and M.Phil degrees from Centre for English Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is currently working on her Ph.D thesis wherein she explores the nexus between the novel genre and nationalism with special reference to island novels and survivalist fiction written between eighteenth and twenty first century. Her M. Phil dissertation grappled with the nuanced difference between rewriting and translation vis-à-vis translation activity between Hindi and English. Renowned Hindi writer Alka Saraogi’s works were taken as case studies for this research. Another area of interest is oral culture of Uttar Pradesh and its close linkages with the contemporary popular culture.
